Geopark Conference Holiday Programme for Partners, Family and Friends

The following programme has been specifically designed to provide an opportunity for partners, family or friends of delegates attending the conference to come along and enjoy what the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark has to offer. 

The Holiday Programme will have a relaxed feel with late starts, friendly guides, including great food and drink. Everyone will meet up again with conference delegates in the evening according to the core programme, enjoying actives, food and entertainment. 

Enjoy this option for just £300 per person. Please note that if you select this programme during on-line registration, you still need to arrange travel and accommodation for your accompanying person(s). You can book accommodation through our website once you have registered! 

 

Day 1 - Underground Overground

Enjoy a special tour of Kents Cavern, one of the most important Stone Age cave sites in Europe, making it Britain’s premier prehistoric cave. 

Then head to  Occombe Organic Farm where you will enjoy lunch whilst taking in the views over-looking open farmland. 

After a short tour of the farm, and a wander along the nature trail through classic English pasture and woodland, the group will visit Berry Head for a relaxed walk around this fantastic National Nature Reserve with incredible Napoleonic history.

In the evening you will return to Occombe Farm with the delegates to enjoy some traditional local entertainment, and food of course!  

Day 2 - Follow in Poirot's footsteps

Born in Torquay in 1890, Agatha Christie Queen of Crime and the world's best selling novelist, was inspired to write more than 20 of her novels in this area.

 

Day 2 starts with a trip to Torquay Museum to view the Agatha Christie exhibits, and then follows Poirot's footsteps along the Literary Trail.

After enjoying your walk along the Agatha Christie mile, you will travel on the steam train or ferry to see the family's holiday home at Greenway House

Then return to join delegates for a free evening enjoying dinner at one of our fine local restaurants. 

Day 3 - Sea and Steam

On day three take a cruise out from Torquay harbour to see the beautiful Geopark coastline from the best possible angle, the sea! 

The trip will follow the coastline around Berry Head and then along the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the historic Dartmouth. The perfect place to enjoy a great lunch and wander the streets.

Steam Railway

 

Then its a short ferry ride across the river to Kingswear to catch the steam railway back. 

In the evening you'll enjoy the conference Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony. 

Day 4 - Classic England

Morning free time, the chance for a lie in or to enjoy a relaxed stroll along the prom and coffee by the Pier, followed by a wander around the harbour area for a spot of shopping and lunch. 

In the afternoon enjoy the delights of historic Torre Abbey, followed by a trip to the beautiful hidden valley of Cockington Country Park. 

A vibrant centre of arts and traditional crafts, Cockington Court Sea Change craft studios will provide a chance to buy those last minute gifts or to enjoy a classic Devonshire Cream Tea. Gail Trezise(1)

At the end of the day, the conference closes and its time to say goodbye to the English Riviera Global Geopark. 

Why not stay a little longer in the UK, and visit some of the other stunning UK Global Geoparks, or UNESCO sites in South West England
