Language School

Our conference partner, the Devon School of English,  is offering Global Geopark themed language courses before the conference, giving delegates the opportunity to improve their general English and explore the English Riviera Geopark at their leisure with expert guides.

Delegates will stay in carefully selected host families within walking distance of the school in Paignton (included in the course price), and can choose from a one week or a two week course option before the Conference start. Alternatively there is a range of Bed and Breakfast and hotel accommodation near the school available at an additional charge to the prices below.

Each week the course will include:

  • 15 x 60 minute  lessons in general English at your level, elementary to advanced
((maximum class size 12 students). Your level will be determined by an entrance test and spoken interview.

  • 3 x afternoon guided activities to sites in the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark
  • 1 x full day geological / guided trip on Saturday
  • Host family single room accommodation half board, walking distance (max. 20 minutes) to the school in Paignton

When you register online to attend the conference, you can select to receive more information about the English language courses and the Devon School of English will make contact with you.

About the School

The Devon School of English is in Paignton (population 45,000) at the heart of the English Riviera Geopark. The School is 5 minutes’ walk from the beach and town centre, and the town centres neighbouring Torquay and Brixham are a short (15 minute) bus ride away.

The Devon School is a family-run business, established in 1971 by Brian Hawthorne, and continued today by his sons Paul, Bret and Chris. The school has been accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English since 1985, and was awarded the title “Centre of Excellence” by the trade journal “The English Language Gazette” based on the results of its last British Council inspection.

Its two Victorian buildings - the red stone Old Vicarage and The Glendale - have been lovingly adapted to house 19 bright and appealing classrooms, 2 student common rooms, coffee bars, computer rooms and a self-access library. It has large private gardens.

Airport Transfers

The above prices do not include airport transfer to and from Torquay / Paignton.

The most convenient international airport is London Heathrow. The school is happy to organize individual or small group transfers, by public coach (National Express ) or by taxi or minibus if preferred.

We can also arrange meeting services on arrival at the airport to take you to your coach stop for an additional charge. You should try and book flights arriving morning or early afternoon into London Heathrow, and departing later afternoon or evening to allow time to transfer comfortably. The school is happy to advise you regarding flights or travel plans.
